Jane Austen's Emma, costume design/final Harriet by Andichan04
Jane Austen's Emma, costume design/final Harriet
This is my submission for TheatreArtists' "Rendering to Reality" Challenge.

A.  This was made for a staged production of "Emma" based on the book by Jane Austen, adapted for the stage by Gordon Glennon
B.  Production Type: this was made for my capstone project for my degree going towards costuming for theatre.  One individual scene was chosen and costumed.
B.  Medium:  I used watercolour, coloured pencil, and pencil for the renderings.
C.  Artwork time: probably about 2+ hours
D.  Construction time: I had a few weeks to construct the garments.  As it was my capstone project, I was the sole person working on creating the costumes.
E.  Only the gloves are reused from our university stock - they were previously used for May in "Once in a Lifetime" (a show I also worked on!)
F.  While I have had many nightmare stories from other costumes, this one was very pleasant to create.  The biggest challenge was becoming more familiar with the Regency time period, and creating an elegant garment to reflect that.
G. The best thing about the rendering is that I tried to emulate fashion plates of the time in the pose & facial expression.  I love how sweet the actress looks in the final garment.
H. As stated above, this costume was pretty much smooth sailing - not much had to change from rendering to final, since my director/coordinator loved the design.  The shoes are a little more contemporary than Regency Era shoes, but I tried to find something pretty close.

I love the Regency Era in style, as well as Jane Austen's works, so this was a dream project for me.  This is one of my favorite costumes that I have ever built for the stage.
'Once in a Lifetime' rendering and final Jerry by Andichan04
'Once in a Lifetime' rendering and final Jerry
This is a design for my University's production of "once in a lifetime" by Moss Hart. Myself and a friend are co-designing (and co-everything costume-wise!) the entire show. The show is set in 1920s Hollywood and centers around the transition of movies from silent film to "talkies." The plot is very similar to "Singin' in the Rain."

Hollywood Jerry, riding breeches, argyle sweater vest and all. :D I love Jerry's Hollywood outfit (but not as much as Kammerling!) This actor was not too thrilled about wearing all this. But it looks great on him.

Long time no post! This is because I have recently created a facebook account that I will be updating more regularly than DA:
A few weeks ago I attended Costume College hosted by Costumer's Guild West (which I am a member of) in Woodland Hills.  It is an annual conference which hosts a wide variety of panels about costuming topics. I taught two classes this year: one on Gijinka costumes, and the other on Regency Era fashion.  They were both a success and it seemed like everyone really enjoyed them.

I have also been very busy (but having a blast) attending various events such as the Jpop Summit in San Francisco and Nisei Week in LA.  Rehearsals start next week for the most recent show I am working on with Theatricum Botanicum: Key Tones by Joyce Carol Oates.  I am very excited to be working with them again; this will be my 5th year with Theatricum.

I hope everyone had a great summer, and best of luck with school, work, or whatever current projects you are working on!

Yes, thank you for thinking of me! I actually emailed Gizmet my responses since I was concerned about some of my answers being seen as complaints against the company I currently work for, though I'm sure you can imagine I have had similar experiences to those who have already responded.

Wonderful idea. Gizmet will be able to summarize and make things anonymous.
